Retired Chief of Defense Forces, General David Musuguri, passed away on October 29, 2024, at the age of 104.
His family confirmed his passing, noting that he had been receiving treatment at Bugando Referral Hospital in Mwanza.
General Musuguri will be remembered for his instrumental leadership during Tanzania’s 1979 Kagera War against Ugandan leader Idi Amin Dada. His role in commanding Tanzania’s forces in response to Amin’s invasion of Kagera marked a significant chapter in Tanzanian history, under the directive of then-President Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, who resolutely opposed the incursion and ordered the military to respond decisively.
