The peaceful village of Umbwe Onana in Kibosho West, Moshi District, was shaken by a brutal tragedy when 72-year-old Isaack Mallya was found dead outside his home on December 2, 2024.

Mallya, the brother of Patrick Boisafi, the Kilimanjaro Regional Chairman of the ruling CCM party, had suffered severe injuries, including a fatal blow to the head, inflicted by unknown assailants.

Kilimanjaro Regional Police Commander, Simon Maigwa, confirmed that authorities had launched an investigation into the murder. “The victim sustained a fatal head injury,” Maigwa said. “We are working hard to identify those responsible and will share further details in the coming days.” A formal statement is expected to be released on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.

Patrick Boisafi, deeply shaken by the loss of his elder brother, expressed his sorrow over the tragedy. “This is beyond painful. It’s inhumane,” he said. “We’re relying on the police to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure justice is served.” Boisafi also mentioned a prior incident where Mallya’s livestock had been killed, suggesting that the murder may have been premeditated. “Maybe the attackers had planned this for a while but failed earlier,” he added.

Describing his brother as a kind and well-respected member of the community, Boisafi expressed concern about the impact such violence has on local residents, especially with the holiday season approaching. “This is unacceptable and casts a shadow over our region, especially with families planning to travel here for the holidays,” he said. “People are scared, and that’s not how it should be, especially at this time of year.”
