Tanzania vehicle owners are experiencing relief as fuel prices have decreased for October 2024.
The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (Ewura) announced the revised prices on Wednesday, attributing the drop to a decline in fuel costs in the Middle East.
According to the Ewura report, petrol prices for imports through Dar es Salaam Port have fallen by 4.1 percent, from Sh3,140 per litre in September to Sh3,011 in October. Similarly, petrol prices at the Port of Tanga have reduced from Sh3,141 to Sh3,016, while the Port of Mtwara saw a decrease from Sh3,142 to Sh3,016.
Diesel prices followed the same trend, with Dar es Salaam prices dropping from Sh3,011 per litre in September to Sh2,846 in October. At the Port of Tanga, diesel fell from Sh3,020 to Sh2,859, and at Mtwara, the price went down from Sh3,021 to Sh2,862.

Ewura’s Director General, Dr. James Mwainyekule, explained that the reduction is due to falling fuel prices in the Arabian market. “Our prices are based on the Free on Board (FOB) prices from the Arabian market, and the October 2024 figures reflect September trends,” he stated.
Compared to August 2024, petrol prices have decreased by 7.42 percent, diesel by 9.15 percent, and kerosene by 8.23 percent. While petrol import premiums increased slightly by 2.63 percent, the diesel premium saw a significant drop of 16.58 percent, with kerosene premiums decreasing by 3.39 percent.
