Regional leaders and stakeholders have called on the Council of Ministers of the East African Community (EAC) to quickly monitor the process of amending the agreement for the establishment of the East African Community (EAC) to facilitate the use of Kiswahili as the official language of the Community.
While hundreds of people have gathered on Sunday to celebrate the 3rd day of the Kiswahili language in the world EAC in Mombasa Kenya, regional leaders and Kiswahili experts have also called on all countries of the East African Community to adopt laws and policies that will stimulate the use of Kiswahili.

The Secretary of the Cabinet of Kenya for Gender, Culture, Arts and Heritage, Hon. Aisha Jumwa, has highlighted the great contribution of Kiswahili to the culture and economy in East Africa in the main speech.
“Kiswahili is our unifying language in the area, and more than 200 million people speak it. I urge all EAC partner countries to push for laws and policies to be written and published in Kiswahili,” said Hon. Jumwa.
Ed. Jumwa asked the EAC partner countries to ensure that laws and policies are available in the Kiswahili language, even while emphasizing the international use of Kiswahili and the efforts made so far by stakeholders in promoting the language.
