Khadija Ramadhanni, the wife of Mbagala resident Juma Said Mfaume, has publicly asked for forgiveness from the world, following her husband’s tragic death allegedly caused by debt collectors.
The incident occurred in Mlandizi District, Kibaha, Coast Region, after Khadija borrowed TZS 300,000 without informing her husband, leading to a fatal confrontation when debt collectors visited their home.
Speaking to AyoTV, Khadija tearfully recounted how she initially took the loan with her husband’s knowledge. Together, they repaid some of it, but three installments remained. After some time, the lending company approached her again, pressuring her to take a new loan to clear the previous one. Despite her husband’s strong opposition to taking another loan, she gave in and borrowed again, this time in secret.
“I didn’t want to tell him. I paid part of the new loan silently and bought a smartphone with the rest. I asked for his forgiveness, and my husband even agreed to help pay TZS 100,000 towards it,” Khadija explained.
The weekly installment was TZS 34,000, but soon the loan company began pressing for more payments. Debt collectors arrived at their house, demanding collateral. When Juma informed them that Khadija was not home, the collectors allegedly forced their way inside and physically attacked him. The brutal attack left Juma unconscious, and he later passed away while receiving treatment at Mlandizi Health Center.
“I know I made a mistake. My actions have cost me my husband’s life. I am asking the world to forgive me,” Khadija pleaded in her interview.
She also made an emotional appeal to President Samia Suluhu Hassan, calling for justice and demanding that those responsible for her husband’s death be held accountable.
Coast Region Police have confirmed that four employees of the lending company have been arrested on charges related to Juma Said Mfaume’s death. Acting Regional Police Commander, Muhudhwari R. Msuya – ACP, told AyoTV that after the suspects realized the gravity of the situation, they tried to take Juma to the hospital in their vehicle, but he tragically passed away during treatment.
This incident has sparked a broader conversation about the practices of loan companies in Tanzania, particularly concerning aggressive debt recovery tactics that often lead to tragic outcomes.

Many Tanzanians have voiced concern over the predatory nature of some micro-lenders, and this case has brought national attention to the need for stronger regulations to prevent similar tragedies.
The investigation continues, the community is left reeling from the shocking loss, while many await justice for Juma. Khadija’s plea for forgiveness and her emotional account of the events stand as a stark reminder of the often-overlooked dangers of debt and the destructive consequences that can result from it.
