Media Wire Express CorrespondentMinister for Information, Communication and Information Technology, Mr Nape Nnauye, has urged media houses to fully embrace and put President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s 4Rs philosophy into practice to maintain peace and stability in Tanzania.
The 4Rs represent Reconciliation, Resilience, Reforms, and Rebuilding, and are essential for addressing the current social, political, and economic issues in the country.
President Samia has consistently advocated for the dissemination, interpretation and implementation of the 4Rs philosophy for Tanzania’s prosperity.
“It is imperative for the media to embrace this philosophy and put it into practice, in efforts to promote peace, unity, and stability from household to national level,” Mr Nape said.
He made the call yesterday, during the annual television and radio public education programmes producers’ meeting, which was organized by the Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC) here.
Opening the meeting, Minister Nape said that an application of the 4Rs philosophy would solve and prevent possible family conflicts, hence promote peace and stability from the grassroot level.
“What I’m saying is that all media content producers have significant contributions towards our nation’s building. We know that the sixth phase government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan has come up with the philosophy, which target to keep our nation stronger and united as ever before.
“My call is that in order to make it fruitful, it shouldn’t remain as the president’s philosophy but rather it should be part of our lives. It should be embraced from the grassroot to the top level,” he urged.
Minister Nape also called on media to hype education on the upcoming civic and general elections by mobilizing people to exercise their rights of turning out in large numbers to pick leaders of their choice.
He said that the available data show that the Tanzanians’ polling average has never reached 50 per cent, insisting that the media should educate the public over such an important exercise in the coming local government election, this year, and the general election next year.
“People shouldn’t allow anyone to elect leaders on their behalf. Voting is everyone’s responsibility. Let us mobilize members of the public to exercise their basic rights,” he said.
On his part, the Government Chief Spokesperson, Mr Mobhare Matinyi also underlined the importance of the media to fully engage in conflict resolution and promote peace.
Earlier, the TBC Director General, Dr Ayub Rioba, told the meeting participants that 4Rs was part of the topics to be presented during the meeting.
He said they will deliberate on how smoothly the philosophy could be implemented by the media. Similarly, he added, visiting some of development projects on progress in the region, including the Mwanza-Isaka Standard Gauge Railway was part of the activities line up, where participants will witness what the government does for its people.
