The Republic’s prosecution team in the high-profile case involving the murder of albino child, Asimwe Novath (2), has presented initial evidence, detailing that it will produce 52 witnesses and 37 exhibits.
In the submitted evidence, one witness described the method used by the accused to abduct the child and their subsequent escape. The witness also mentioned a promised vehicle, a Toyota V8, also known as a “Shangingi,” which was allegedly offered to Asimwe’s father by unknown assailants. The child was kidnapped from his home in Kiji cha Bulamula, Kamachumu Ward, Muleba District, Kagera Region, on the night of May 30, 2024, at around 2:00 AM. The perpetrators then vanished with the child.
Seventeen days later, the body of the child was discovered wrapped in a sandarusi (sack) and abandoned beneath a culvert on the Makongora Road, Kabyonda Hamlet, Ruhanga Ward, in the same district.

In response to this, the police arrested nine individuals, including the child’s father, Novath Venanth, and Father Elpidius Rwegoshora. They were charged with murder under case number 17740/2024 at the Bukoba District Court. Other accused individuals in this case are Nurdini Masudi, Ramadhani Selestine, Rweyangira Alphonce, Dastan Bruchard, Faswiu Athuman, Gozbert Alikad, and Desdery Everigist, all residents of Kagera Region.
