The Permanent Parliamentary Committee on Social Welfare and Community Development has commended the Sixth Phase Government under Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for its decision to invest in the Mponde Tea Factory in Tanga Region.
This investment has been made through the Workers’ Compensation Fund (WCF) in collaboration with the Public Service Social Security Fund (PSSSF), with the factory benefiting farmers from the Bumbuli District and surrounding areas of Lushoto.
The praise was given today, November 9, 2024, in Tanga City by the Committee’s Chairperson, Fatma Toufiq, during a visit to the factory, alongside committee members, to observe how the factory operates.

Furthermore, Fatma praised the WCF and PSSSF funds for the productive investment being made at the Mponde Tea Factory.
Earlier, speaking after the factory tour, the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, for Labour, Youth, Employment, and Disabled Affairs, Ridhiwani Kikwete, mentioned some of the benefits of the factory, including providing employment opportunities for the community and ensuring a reliable tea market for farmers.
On his part, the Director-General of WCF, Dr. John Mduma, stated that the factory will enable residents of Lushoto, Bumbuli, Korogwe, and nearby areas to earn income, thus improving their economic status as many depend on tea farming.
