Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has called upon the United Nations (UN) to extend robust support to developing countries with limited economic capabilities, urging global collaboration to enhance their domestic development programs.
Majaliwa made this appeal during the opening of a two-day Summit of the Future at the UN headquarters in New York, where he represented President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA79).
The Prime Minister addressed heads of state and government, sharing Tanzania’s commitment to building a prosperous future by investing in crucial sectors like agriculture, industry, mining, investment, and natural resources. He stressed that many developing nations face financial constraints and would benefit greatly from UN assistance.
“The United Nations must support nations with limited capabilities to help them improve their internal economic programs. In Tanzania, we are committed to building a brighter future for our citizens by strengthening sectors such as agriculture, investment, industry, mining, and natural resources,” he stated, emphasizing that UN support would be pivotal in achieving these goals.
Importance of Security in Development
Majaliwa emphasized that economic growth cannot be achieved without ensuring national and regional security. He pointed out that Tanzania places a high priority on security, not only for its citizens but also for neighboring countries, underscoring the nation’s role in promoting peace and stability across East Africa.
“When you talk about building a better tomorrow for your people, you cannot succeed if there is no safe country. Security is essential, and we have assured the international community that, in addition to ensuring internal security, we are also committed to supporting our neighboring countries,” Majaliwa declared.
Tackling Climate Change and Environmental Challenges
Addressing the pressing issue of climate change, Prime Minister Majaliwa highlighted how it has had a severe impact on numerous countries, including Tanzania, citing extreme weather conditions such as droughts and flooding. He detailed the steps Tanzania is taking to educate its citizens on climate change to foster community dialogue on sustainable solutions.
“Tanzania is actively educating its people on climate change to enable them to come together and discuss how to cope with the issue while continuing their economic activities,” he explained.

Appeal for International Funding and Climate Resilience
The Prime Minister reiterated Tanzania’s dedication to advocating for global climate action, urging developed nations to honor their financial pledges to support climate adaptation and mitigation efforts in developing countries. He emphasized that these funds are essential to implement effective climate strategies, safeguard ecosystems, and ensure the sustainable development of vulnerable communities.
“Tanzania is committed to championing global climate advocacy and expects the international community to fulfill its funding commitments to assist developing countries in adapting to and mitigating climate change challenges,” he remarked.
Summit of the Future’s Focus
The Summit of the Future, hosted by the UN, provides a platform for world leaders to discuss pressing global challenges, including economic disparities, security, and environmental sustainability. Majaliwa’s call for action highlights Tanzania’s proactive stance in advocating for sustainable development, security, and climate resilience, reaffirming its commitment to playing a key role in shaping a more inclusive and sustainable future for all.
