The judgment will now be delivered today, July 22, 2024, before Chief Judge Salma Maghimbi.

Ditto, whose real name is Dotto Bwakeya, filed a lawsuit in 2020 seeking the court to order MultiChoice Tanzania (DStv) to pay him 6 billion Tanzanian Shillings in compensation for using his song ‘Nchi Yangu’ in their commercials without his consent during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals campaign.

He has also asked the court to award him 200 million Tanzanian Shillings for general damages, as well as 25% interest since the day he filed the lawsuit, claiming that the company deprived him of benefiting from his work.

In this case, Ditto presented five witnesses, while DStv had two witnesses— Astrid Mapunda and Johnson Mshana— led by lawyers Simon Lyimo and Thomas Mathias.

On Ditto’s side, some of his witnesses included the song’s producer, Emmanuel Maungu (Emma the boy), his manager, Rodney Rugambo, and Angela Karashani, represented by lawyers Ally Hamza and Elizabeth Mlemeta.

Mlemeta told Mwananchi Digital that the judgment will be delivered today at 4:00 AM, following the final submissions regarding the evidence and defense.

“On June 24, we filed closing submissions, and now we are waiting for the judgment at 4:00 AM,” she said.
