The government has announced that it has completed a database of major drug dealers and has begun investigations into these individuals.

Additionally, Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) in Dar es Salaam stated that it receives 900 addicts daily who use methadone as part of their drug rehabilitation treatment.

These details were revealed during a press conference in Dar es Salaam by Aretas Lyimo, the Commissioner General of the Drug Control and Enforcement Authority (DCEA), and Prof. Mohamed Janabi, Director of MNH.

Prof. Janabi highlighted the severity of the drug abuse problem, noting that MNH alone treated 3,840 people with methadone therapy up to June this year.

He emphasized the health risks associated with drug abuse, such as heart rhythm disturbances and kidney damage, contributing to sudden deaths among youth.

Moreover, drug users are prone to diseases like cancer due to needle sharing and hepatitis infections, with some suffering from liver cancer.

The authorities have intensified efforts to combat drug trafficking, with recent operations resulting in numerous arrests across various regions, seizing substantial quantities of narcotics and chemicals.

DCEA has finalized a database of major drug suppliers and initiated investigations, identifying individuals involved both domestically and internationally.

Many are involved in legitimate businesses but are implicated in drug trafficking and money laundering activities.
