The Governor of Mtwara, Colonel Patrick Sawala, has appealed to residents of Mtwara Mikindani Municipality, who are grappling with the aftermath of recent floods, to stay patient as the government works on providing support.
Sawala visited the flood-affected areas to offer his condolences and assure the public that steps are being taken to assist them. He emphasized that the government is committed to working together with the community to tackle the flooding issue and will do everything possible to find solutions.
The floods have caused considerable damage, with homes collapsing and food supplies destroyed. Sawala explained that the underlying cause of the floods is the poor drainage system, which has been unable to manage the excess rainwater. He reassured the residents that the government would take necessary actions to improve the drainage infrastructure and prevent future flooding.
Acknowledging the hardship the residents have faced, Sawala urged them to remain hopeful and trust that the government will take swift action to assist them. He also promised that immediate relief would be provided while plans for long-term solutions to the drainage problem are being developed.

Sawala’s visit comes at a time when many regions in Tanzania are facing the effects of unpredictable weather patterns. His message of patience and hope is a reminder that the road to recovery from such natural disasters is a shared effort, and the government is working hard to support the people of Mtwara.
Looking ahead, the regional government is focused not only on providing immediate relief but also on reinforcing infrastructure to help prevent similar disasters in the future. The aim is to ensure that Mtwara and its residents are better prepared for whatever challenges lie ahead.
