President Samia Suluhu Hassan has assured the nation that the government will continue to put forth the same dedication and energy into filling the position left by the late Dr. Faustine Ndugulile, with the goal of bringing further honor to the country.
Dr. Ndugulile, who passed away on November 27, 2024, had been appointed as the Regional Director for Africa at the World Health Organization (WHO) after winning the election for the esteemed role.
Speaking on December 2, 2024, during a special memorial service held in Dar es Salaam, President Samia expressed her condolences to Dr. Ndugulile’s family and praised his significant contributions to both Tanzania and the international health community. She emphasized the importance of continuing his work, especially his efforts to advance health and well-being in Africa.
The service, held at Karimjee Grounds, brought together key political figures, including the Speaker of the National Assembly, Dr. Tulia Ackson, who paid tribute to Dr. Ndugulile’s dedication and his important role in supporting her own campaign for the presidency of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). Dr. Ackson recalled how Dr. Ndugulile had been at the forefront of efforts to promote Tanzania’s interests on the global stage. “He was a steadfast leader who always fought for what was right and worked hard to improve the lives of people in our country and beyond,” she said.
Dr. Ndugulile’s passing has left a profound loss in both his home constituency of Kigamboni and the wider public health sector. His work was highly respected, and he was known for his tireless efforts to address health issues in Tanzania. His appointment to the WHO was a testament to his expertise and the trust placed in him by his peers.
