Poland President, Mr Andrzej Duda has expressed his delight with the progress of the project funded by his government dubbed ‘Improving Emergence Care in Tanzania (IMECT), saying it has improved the provision of services.
He said the project brought considerable contribution in building capacity of at least 140 personnel with world class expertise in medical care.
He told journalists on Friday after visiting the Aga Khan Hospital in Dar es Salaam, saying Poland is privileged to actively contribute to developmental initiatives in Tanzania, particularly in healthcare. Mr Duda ended his two-day state visit in the country on Friday.
The Aga Khan Hospital is the beneficiary of the IMECT project supported by Polish Aid and implemented by the Polish Centre for International Aid (PCPM) He said the project aimed at enhancing healthcare services in several hospitals and health centres across Tanzania.
Poland provides such support in five hospitals namely Aga Khan Hospital, Chanika Health Centre, Temeke and Mwananyamala Regional Referral Hospital and Nyamagana District Hospital.
Mr Duda said the number of deaths at the emergence department in Aga Khan Hospitals in two years since 2022 when the project’s implementation started have dropped significantly due to among others first class emergence care training to medical personnel and supply of modern medical equipment .
“First and foremost, thanks to the Polish Centre for International Aid, Polish instructors for providing training to staff and doctors here. They are providing training in emergence medical care in Tanzania at this particular centre and other places, they have given such training to 140 personnel,” President Duda said.
Adding “They are providing training absolutely to the top world class level” He extended gratitude to all supporters who have been making the project yields its desired outcome of serving live.
He said the project has also enabled construction of the training centre at Aga Khan Hospital, which consists of laboratories and rooms for practical training in various topics pertaining to emergence medical care. On his part, Permanent Secretary in the Health Ministry, Dr John Jingu said the Poland government through the Polish Aid has been eying on extending their services beyond Dar es Salaam and Mwanza regions.
Dr Jingu noted under the emergence care project the Eastern Europe nation is providing training to the country’s police, scout and Fire and Rescue Force’s personnel. Dr Jingu commended President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan for inviting her counterpart President Duda, whose trip takes the bilateral relation between the two friend nations to new heights.
According to the statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East Africa Cooperation recently, Poland through the IMECT project provided an aid worth over 1,136,704 million US dollars (about 2.8bn/-) to cater for emergence medical services improvement in Tanzania.
