Honora Tanzania Public Limited Company (“TIGO”) has distanced itself from allegations of leaking the phone records of the Vice Chairman of Chadema (Mainland), Tundu Lissu, stating that Tigo’s current parent company did not own the business during the reported incident.
This statement stems from an ongoing case in the United Kingdom between Millicom, the former owner of Tigo, and its former employee, Michael Clifford, who has now been dismissed.
According to a report by The Guardian on September 24, 2024, Clifford testified in a London court that his dismissal was due to his report on how the company allegedly disclosed the communication records of the Chadema Vice Chairman, Tundu Lissu.
Lissu was shot by unknown assailants on September 7, 2017, while in his car, as he was heading to his residence after attending parliamentary sessions in Dodoma.
In a statement released today, September 26, 2024, Honora Tanzania Public Limited Company acknowledged the ongoing employment case in a London court involving Millicom’s former employee, the parent company of Tigo until 2022.
“The current parent company of Tigo was not its owner at the time of the reported incident,” the statement said.
