Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism Angellah Kairuki has mandated the Tanzania Forest Services (TFS) to significantly increase the production and distribution of tree seedlings to combat the growing threat of forest depletion. During her visit to the Tree Seed Production Centre, Kairuki emphasized the urgent need to protect Tanzania’s forests through mass tree planting efforts.
“Our forests face increasing risks, making it imperative to accelerate the production and supply of high-quality seeds across various regions for extensive tree planting,” Kairuki stated. She highlighted the necessity of allocating more funds to support the centre’s operations and ensure the sustainability of this vital initiative.
Kairuki’s directives align with the government’s broader environmental conservation goals and the need to mitigate the effects of deforestation. By enhancing seed production, the initiative aims to foster widespread community participation in tree planting activities, contributing to the preservation of forest ecosystems.

The Minister also underscored the importance of continuous public education through diverse media channels to raise awareness about the significance of high-quality tree seeds. “Educating the public on the benefits of planting trees and preserving forests is crucial for the success of this initiative,” she remarked.
In addition to the tree seedling initiative, Kairuki has been actively promoting various tourism and cultural projects. These efforts include the development of the Mount Kilimanjaro Convention Centre and collaborations to enhance cruise ship tourism and beach development. Such initiatives are part of the government’s strategy to boost tourism, which significantly contributes to Tanzania’s GDP and foreign direct investments.
As part of her comprehensive approach to environmental and economic development, Kairuki’s directives reflect a commitment to both conservation and sustainable growth. The increased production and distribution of tree seedlings are expected to play a pivotal role in safeguarding Tanzania’s forests for future generations.
The government’s efforts to support the tourism sector, combined with environmental conservation initiatives, highlight a holistic approach to national development. By integrating tourism with environmental sustainability, Tanzania aims to achieve long-term economic and ecological benefits.
