The Minister for Lands, Housing, and Human Settlements Development, Hon. Deogratius Ndejembi, has directed the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry to take disciplinary action against seven officials in the Dar es Salaam region for alleged misconduct in the land sector.
This directive was issued during a meeting with the implicated staff members, who have admitted involvement in several land disputes within the region.
While addressing the officials, Minister Ndejembi expressed his commitment to addressing the challenges faced by the public in accessing quality land services. He emphasized the importance of integrity and accountability in the ministry, stating that any wrongdoing would not be tolerated.
“I instruct the Permanent Secretary to involve the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) in handling this matter. It is essential that we address these issues decisively to ensure the public receives the quality land services they deserve,” said Minister Ndejembi.
The allegations against the officials emerged after a review of case files they had previously worked on. The inquiry revealed a pattern of misconduct, which prompted the minister to take immediate action. The officials’ admissions of their involvement in the land disputes raised significant concerns regarding their professional conduct and the integrity of the ministry.
During the meeting, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Ms. Lucy Kabyemera, was present, along with other ministry officials. Together, they discussed the current challenges facing the land sector in Dar es Salaam, including issues related to land disputes, inadequate service delivery, and corruption.
Minister Ndejembi underscored the need for the ministry to adopt more stringent measures to ensure that land services are provided fairly and efficiently. He urged the officials to take their roles seriously and to work collaboratively to restore public confidence in the ministry’s operations.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenges within the land sector in Tanzania, where corruption and mismanagement have long plagued service delivery. Minister Ndejembi’s swift action aims to address these concerns and to signal a zero-tolerance policy toward any form of misconduct within the ministry.
