The Tanzanian government has granted a contract to two Chinese companies for the construction of tanks and associated infrastructure at the Dar Es Salaam Port to improve the efficiency of handling petroleum and energy products.
Valued at $270 million (equivalent to Sh678.6 billion), the project will be undertaken by M/S China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group Co Ltd and M/S Wuhan Engineering Co Ltd. It entails the construction of 15 tanks with a total storage capacity of 420,000 cubic meters for petroleum products, as confirmed by Transport Minister Makame Mbarawa.
Minister Mbarawa described the project as a significant milestone that has been in the making for a decade, with the completion expected within a two-year timeframe.
Each of the 15 tanks will be capable of storing 30,000 cubic meters of petroleum products, with six tanks designated for diesel storage, five for petrol, three for jet fuel, and one for the interface process.
