Kenyan MP for Dadaab, Farah Maalim, has been expelled from the Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort in Mombasa following his recent controversial remarks against protesting Kenyan youth.
According to Kenyan media, Maalim’s remarks were made in a rapidly circulating online video that has incited anger among the youth and the Kenyan public at large. However, the exact date the video was recorded remains unknown.
Reports indicate that the MP checked into the hotel on Friday.

Sarova Hotels’ Managing Director, Jimi Kariuki, announced the expulsion on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, after some users criticized the hotel for allowing Maalim to stay.
Kariuki made it clear that the hotel does not support Maalim’s inflammatory remarks.
“Good evening. He is no longer a guest at our hotel. We asked him to leave early this afternoon. We do not support his provocative and threatening statements against Kenyans and will not associate our brand with such an individual,” Kariuki wrote.
In the video, Maalim, speaking in Somali, stated that if he were the President of Kenya, he would kill 5,000 protesters every day.
A verified translation of the video revealed that the MP was condemning Kenyan youth (‘Gen Z’) for their attempt to march to the State House during protests against the 2024 Finance Bill.
“This was an attempted coup, an open coup attempt. Children of wealthy business owners, rich parents, and children raised with ill-gotten wealth, 80% from one tribe, were left in the middle of the city and told to riot and seize the State House and Parliament buildings. God forbid, if I were president, I would have slaughtered 5,000 of them every day,” he said.
Maalim has defended himself, claiming the video was edited to portray him in a negative light.
“It’s all editing, cutting and pasting, taking a word from here, another from there, and putting them together. There’s a lot of nonsense. Basically, Somalis would do this because I interfered with their politics. It’s not the real picture,” Maalim defended.
