President Dr Hussein Mwinyi has made a minor adjustment in his cabinet following the resignation of Simai Mohammed Said, who was the Tourism and Heritage Minister.
A press statement issued on Saturday morning by the Zanzibar State House stated that President Mwinyi has transferred Mudrik Ramadh Soraga from Minister of State, Office of the President, Labour, Economy, and Investment to the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. He is going to fill the vacuum left by Simai Mohammed Said, who resigned.
President Mwinyi has also appointed Mr. Shaaban Ali Othman as the new Minister of the Blue Economy and Fisheries. Prior to his new role, Othman was the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Water, Energy, and Minerals. Othman is taking over from Hamoud Mohamed Rashid, who has been named the new Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Heritage.
Mr. Juma Makungu Juma has been appointed Deputy Minister of State in the President’s Office for Finance and Planning. He is replacing Zawadi Amour Nassor, who has been named as the new Deputy Minister of Water, Energy, and Minerals. Prior to his new role, Makungu was serving as the Deputy Minister of Land and Housing Development.
The statement added that Dr. Mwinyi has also appointed Ali Suleiman Mrembo as the Minister of State, Office of the President – State House, to fill the void left by Ali Juma Shamhuna, who has been named as the new Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and Planning.
Prior to his latest appointment, Mrembo was the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Finance and Planning. President Mwinyi has also appointed Ms. Salha Mohamed Mwinjuma as Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Land and Housing Development.
The statement attributed that the appointments aim to strengthen vital sectors of Zanzibar’s economy.”
