A woman was tragically strangled to death in her own home in a shocking act of jealousy, authorities reported on Monday.
Juliana Mbogo, 40, was killed on the evening of Saturday, August 10, 2024, in her residence on Maselele Street in the Cheyo B Ward of Tabora Municipality. Police have arrested a suspect believed to have been involved in a troubled relationship with the victim.
According to Tabora Regional Police Commander Richard Abwao, the suspect allegedly lured Mbogo’s 10-year-old child out of the bedroom, claiming the adults needed to talk privately. Once the child was asleep in the living room, the suspect is accused of using a whistle cord to strangle Mbogo and then hiding her body under the bed.
“It is a deeply disturbing case. The suspect had a relationship with the deceased, but it became strained, leading to this tragic outcome,” Commander Abwao stated. “He used a whistle cord to strangle her and then concealed her body under the bed.”

The crime came to light the next morning when Mbogo’s child found their mother missing and the suspect still present in the home with his face covered. The child quickly informed a neighbor, Elisha Kumbangwa, who then alerted the authorities.
“The child told us that on Saturday evening, a man carrying a black bag introduced himself as an uncle. Juliana welcomed him in, and they stayed in the living room. But the next morning, when the child went to wake her mother, she was gone, and the man was still in the house with his face covered,” Kumbangwa recounted.
Police arrested the suspect immediately, and the investigation is ongoing.
Authorities have assured that the suspect will face charges of murder in the coming days once the forensic evidence is processed.
This tragic incident has left the Maselele community in shock, as neighbors and friends mourn the senseless loss of Juliana Mbogo. Many are questioning how a relationship could turn so violently.
The Tabora Police Command is urging anyone experiencing difficulties in their relationships to seek help before resorting to violence. Residents are also encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to prevent further tragedies.
