Residents of Kaseni Street in Mtakuja Ward, Geita Municipal Council, are in a state of shock after discovering an unmarked grave on their property.
The family of the late Kamuli Kamnoba, particularly his widow, Mariam Lyapeka, was bewildered when they awoke to find a grave had been constructed on their land.
Mariam, who has lived in the area since 1985, expressed her disbelief, stating, “In my 39 years here, I have never encountered anything like this. It’s shocking for the children to wake up and find this grave surrounded by thorns in our field.” The sudden appearance of the grave has raised many questions for the family and their neighbors.
The family has no history of land disputes or conflicts that would explain the mysterious grave. Mariam’s son shared his concerns, urging authorities to investigate the matter: “We don’t know who built this grave or their intentions. We ask the government and security forces to look into this situation.”
Local residents are similarly alarmed, fearing the implications of such an occurrence. Neighbors have come together to support the family, emphasizing the need for an inquiry into the grave’s origin.

“We urge the government and law enforcement to treat this issue seriously and conduct a thorough investigation. It’s vital for the safety and peace of our community,” stated one concerned neighbor.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns about land ownership and security in the region. As the family and community seek answers, the mystery of the grave serves as a reminder of the potential complexities surrounding land use in Tanzania.
Authorities have yet to respond to the community’s calls for help.
