Latra Set to Revolutionize City Transport

The Land Transport Regulatory Authority (Latra) is preparing to launch a revolutionary ride-sharing service by the end of the 2024/25 fiscal year.

This service will enable nine to fourteen passengers to share a single vehicle, with bookings made via mobile applications, even if users are at different locations.

Johansen Kahatano, the Director of Road Transport Regulation at Latra, emphasized that the new service is a response to high demand and the need to improve transportation options for residents of Dar es Salaam. “Our goal is to enhance travel convenience and provide varied choices for commuters,” Kahatano said. “While some passengers may opt for premium services, others will have access to traditional public minibuses.”

The service aims to address urban mobility challenges by reducing congestion and offering a flexible transportation alternative. The introduction of ride-sharing is part of Latra’s broader strategy to modernize and improve the city’s public transport system.
