The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Dr. Doto Biteko, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Bukombe constituency in Geita region, has called on parents and guardians to ensure their children receive an education, emphasizing its critical role in social and economic development.
Biteko made this appeal while addressing a public meeting at Bufanka Primary School in the village of Bufanka, Bugelenga ward, Bukombe constituency. He highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to improve educational infrastructure, noting that Bukombe district now boasts seven secondary schools and five advanced level schools (Form Five and Six), a significant increase from the previous single school.
“I feel ashamed to see children being prevented from attending school. I urge parents to send their children to school. I also ask village chairpersons to intervene if there is a child in your village who should be in school but isn’t attending. Visit the household and explain the importance of education so that the child can go to school,” Biteko stressed.
In a show of support for local education initiatives, Dr. Biteko contributed 135 roofing sheets and 400 bags of cement to aid the completion of various classroom construction projects in Bugelenga ward. This gesture underscores his commitment to enhancing educational facilities in the region.

Additionally, Biteko called on the residents of Bufanka village and the wider Bukombe constituency to prepare for the upcoming local government elections. He urged them to elect qualified individuals who will contribute to the area’s development.
“Our party leaders and ward secretaries should start visiting our wards to inform our delegates about the upcoming elections. People often wonder how the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party consistently wins. It’s because we plan ahead and organize early for the future,” Biteko said.
Biteko’s address also touched on the importance of political engagement and preparation, emphasizing that proactive measures are key to ensuring effective governance and continued progress. His call to action reflects the broader goals of the Tanzanian government to foster educational advancement and civic participation as cornerstones of national development.
The Deputy Prime Minister’s visit to Bukombe and his contributions to local schools highlight a strategic push to improve educational access and quality, which are vital for empowering future generations and achieving long-term socio-economic growth. His remarks and actions aim to mobilize both community and governmental efforts towards a unified goal of educational excellence and informed civic participation.
