The Chief Justice of Tanzania, Prof. Ibrahim Juma, has lauded the Workers’ Compensation Fund (WCF) for its ongoing efforts to gather feedback on the legislation governing the fund, aimed at enhancing the compensation process for workers.
Prof. Juma made these remarks during the opening of a workshop between the Justices of the Court of Appeal of Tanzania and the WCF in Arusha. He emphasized the importance of stakeholder engagement in reforming the legal framework to ensure that the fund effectively meets the needs of injured workers.
In addition to his commendation, Prof. Juma urged the Justices of the Court of Appeal to continue providing legal advice that would contribute to the improvement of the WCF laws, thereby increasing efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of justice to workers suffering from workplace-related injuries.
“We must recognize that cooperation among the Judiciary, the Compensation Fund, and all stakeholders in the chain of workers’ rights is part of the constitutional objectives of social welfare aimed at ensuring that workers’ rights are duly observed and protected,” the Chief Justice remarked.
The dialogue between the judiciary and the WCF is seen as a vital step in promoting workers’ rights and ensuring that the compensation system is not only accessible but also equitable. This collaboration aims to streamline processes and address any gaps in the current legal framework that may hinder timely and fair compensation for workers.
