The Deputy Minister for Construction, Eng. Godfrey Kasekenya, has urged the contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Cooperation (CCECC), building the 73-kilometer Kahama-Kakola road, to maintain high-quality standards to ensure the road’s durability for many years.
While inspecting the construction today, Eng. Kasekenya emphasized that the road, which passes through a region with large water bodies and plains, should be built to the required specifications to promote economic growth in the Shinyanga and Geita regions.
“TECU, ensure that this road becomes a model for the excellent work you’ve done so it can be showcased both locally and internationally,” the Deputy Minister stressed.
He further highlighted that President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s government aims to connect the entire stretch of road from Kahama-Kakola-Ilogi to Geita, totaling 118 kilometers, to create a shorter route linking the Shinyanga and Geita regions and enhancing modern road infrastructure in the lakeside region.
Eng. Kasekenya urged the Kahama District Commissioner, Mboni Mhita, to reinforce security for the contractor and their assets while educating residents to avoid encroaching on road reserve areas.
“Ensure that farming, pastoralism, and construction activities within the road reserves are controlled so that the project proceeds as planned,” the Deputy Minister insisted.

District Commissioner Mboni Mhita stated that once completed, the road will spur the growth of the towns of Kahama and Geita, increase rice production, and promote mining activities, thus boosting the local economies of these regions.
Shinyanga TANROADS Manager, Eng. Joel Samwel Mwambungu, revealed that over 100.6 billion Tanzanian shillings are expected to be spent on the project. He also mentioned that 408 people, whose land was acquired for the project, will be compensated next week, and more than 299 Tanzanians have already been employed.
“We are planning to install streetlights along all urban areas of this road to promote services and businesses that will operate both day and night,” Eng. Mwambungu added.
Deputy Minister Kasekenya concluded his two-day visit by inspecting infrastructure development progress in the Tabora and Shinyanga regions.
