Minister of construction  Honorable Abdallah Ulega, has issued immediate directives to improve the road infrastructure between Ubungo and Kimara in Dar es Salaam.

During an inspection tour of ongoing construction projects in the city, Minister Ulega emphasized the necessity of modifying the current road edges to facilitate emergency vehicle access and prevent potential hazards.

“The roads constructed between Ubungo and Kimara have edges that could pose significant challenges during emergencies, as vehicles cannot easily exit the roadway,” Minister Ulega stated. He underscored that in the event of an accident or other emergencies, the inability of vehicles to maneuver off the road could endanger lives.

The Minister highlighted that if a vehicle breakdown occurs, it would be difficult for other vehicles to pass, exacerbating traffic congestion and potentially disrupting essential services. He referenced directives from President Samia Suluhu Hassan and the CCM Election Manifesto of 2020-2025, which advocate for adaptable road edges to allow immediate vehicle exit during emergencies.

“This is a fundamental issue, and we need innovation in executing these projects to prevent foreseeable risks,” Minister Ulega added. His instructions reflect a commitment to prioritizing public safety and addressing traffic challenges by ensuring that infrastructure is both secure and user-friendly.

The Minister’s directives are expected to prompt a review and redesign of the current road structures to incorporate features that allow for quick vehicle evacuation during emergencies, thereby reducing congestion and enhancing overall road safety.

This initiative is part of a broader effort by the government to improve urban infrastructure, ensuring that it meets safety standards and serves the needs of the public effectively. The modifications are anticipated to facilitate smoother traffic flow and provide safer passage for emergency response vehicles, ultimately contributing to the well-being of Dar es Salaam’s residents.

As the city continues to expand, addressing infrastructural challenges remains a priority to accommodate the growing population and increasing number of vehicles. The Ministry of Works, under Minister Ulega’s leadership, is actively seeking solutions that promote efficiency and safety on the roads, aligning with national development goals and the public’s expectations.

The implementation of these directives will involve collaboration with various stakeholders, including construction contractors and urban planners, to ensure that the necessary adjustments are made promptly and effectively. The success of this initiative will serve as a model for future infrastructure projects across the country, demonstrating the government’s dedication to proactive and responsive urban planning.
