A devastating stampede during a soccer match in southern Guinea has left over 50 people dead, with many more injured.

The tragedy occurred as crowds tried to flee from growing chaos at a packed stadium.

The incident took place in the town of Nzerekore, during a final match between local teams Labe and Nzerekore. The match was held to honor Guinea’s military leader, Mamadi Doumbouya. As the match ended and fans attempted to leave, panic set in. People tried to escape by jumping over a high fence, but the rush led to a deadly stampede.

Witnesses described the horror as the crowd surged uncontrollably, with many people unable to get to safety. The stadium, already overcrowded, became a scene of confusion and desperation as people pushed each other in an attempt to find an exit.

Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah expressed deep sorrow over the lives lost and assured the public that authorities were working to restore order. “We are doing everything possible to bring calm to the situation,” he said, offering condolences to the families of the victims.

The disaster has left the nation in shock. Many are questioning how such a tragedy could have been prevented, with concerns about overcrowding and security measures at the stadium. Local authorities are currently investigating what caused the stampede and how it could have been avoided.
