CHADEMA Chairman Freeman Mbowe has stated that he will accept defeat in the party’s chairmanship race if voters decide he is not suitable for the position. He added that, in such a case, he will return to his business ventures.
Mbowe made the remarks on Friday, January 10, 2025, during an interview on the “Power Breakfast” show aired by Clouds Television.
“In the legacy I wish to leave behind, democracy is key. For example, as we head into the elections, my dream is to ensure the process is completely free and transparent. It will be conducted live, with nothing hidden behind closed doors,” said Mbowe.
“If, after this process, legitimate voters decide that Chairman Mbowe is unfit and should step down, I will be grateful, embrace my successor, congratulate them, and wish them well in leading our party. After that, I’ll return to my business activities,” he added.

Freeman Mbowe, Chairman of CHADEMA, revealed that he was one of the founders of the party at the age of 30. Speaking on Clouds FM, he shared his journey:
“I was among the founders of CHADEMA. At that time, I was very young, one of ten people who started the party. I was just 30 years old.
“I was running a business, and our family was deeply rooted in entrepreneurship. My father, after the independence movement, ventured into politics and contested for a parliamentary seat in 1965. He was a close friend of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere. Our family was involved in business even before our country gained independence.
“I entered politics while managing both politics and business simultaneously,” Mbowe said.
