A late-night road accident in Handeni District, Tanga Region, has claimed the lives of two people after a speeding Toyota Noah lost control and crashed into a stationary Toyota Canter.
The accident occurred in the early hours of Monday, February 10, 2025, at Kauzeni, Kwenjugo Ward.
Tanga Regional Police Commander Almachius Mchunguzi confirmed the incident, explaining that the Toyota Noah was traveling from Korogwe to Handeni when the driver failed to negotiate a bend and slammed into the parked Canter. “The driver was moving at high speed, which made it difficult to control the vehicle in time,” he said.

Several passengers in the Noah sustained injuries and were rushed to Handeni Town Hospital for treatment. The bodies of the deceased have been taken to the hospital mortuary for necessary formalities.
Handeni District Commissioner Albert Msando revealed that one of the victims was Abdul Kareem Kimemeneke, a 49-year-old soldier from the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (JWTZ), stationed at 83 Vigwaza Battalion. Kimemeneke was a resident of Kwamfuko in Vibaoni Ward, Handeni.
Authorities have urged motorists to remain cautious, particularly when driving at night, to prevent similar accidents. Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
