Dar Residents to Receive Free Orthopedic Surgeries

Starting from August 26 to 28, over 2,300 residents of Dar es Salaam will have the opportunity to undergo free knee and hip surgeries at the Muhimbili National Hospital’s Mloganzila branch. This medical camp is organized by Global Medicare, a local healthcare organization, in partnership with Yashoda Hospital, a renowned medical facility from India.

The surgical team will be led by Dr. Ram Mohan Reddy, a highly experienced knee and hip surgeon from Yashoda Hospital, who will collaborate with Tanzanian medical specialists. This collaboration aims to not only provide essential surgical services to the local population but also to enhance the skills and capacity of Tanzanian doctors, enabling them to perform such complex procedures independently in the future.

Abdulmalik Mollel, the Executive Director of Global Medicare, emphasized the significance of this partnership, stating that it serves as a platform for knowledge exchange between Tanzanian and international medical experts. This initiative is part of a broader effort to establish Tanzania as a hub for medical tourism in East Africa.

The government of Tanzania has made substantial investments in modern medical equipment and the training of local doctors, with the goal of reducing the need for Tanzanians to seek treatment abroad. Mollel expressed confidence in the country’s healthcare system, which is now equipped with the latest technology and qualified specialists, capable of handling complex medical procedures.

Last year, a similar medical camp was held with over 2,300 participants, demonstrating the high demand for such specialized services. The upcoming camp is expected to replicate this success, further solidifying Tanzania’s position as a regional leader in healthcare.

The collaboration with Yashoda Hospital, renowned for its high standards and advanced medical practices, underscores the progress Tanzania has made in the healthcare sector. This initiative also reflects the government’s commitment to improving healthcare services and making them accessible to all Tanzanians.
