Arusha Regional Commissioner, Hon. Paul Christian Makonda, has mandated the swift completion of the new passenger terminal at Arusha Airport (Kisongo), aiming for the facility to begin operations by September 1 this year.
During a recent inspection of the terminal’s construction, Hon. Makonda emphasized the need for rapid progress. The new terminal will be a substantial upgrade, with a capacity to accommodate approximately 1,000 passengers at once, compared to the old terminal’s capacity of just 150 passengers. This upgrade is expected to greatly enhance transportation services in the region.
“Our aim as Arusha residents is to have our airport operating around the clock. We want private aircraft owners to use our airport, in line with President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s vision of transforming Arusha into a major gateway and boosting national tourism,” stated Hon. Makonda.

Hon. Makonda also highlighted the need to integrate advanced technology in passenger services. He called for the development of infrastructure to promote Arusha’s tourism, thereby attracting more visitors to the region and surrounding areas. The introduction of modern technology is expected to improve service quality and increase tourist engagement.
With these improvements, Arusha Airport is poised to become a significant economic and tourism hub. Hon. Makonda expressed confidence that the enhanced transportation services will make the airport a key attraction for tourists and play a crucial role in advancing the country’s tourism strategy.
