TikTok has resumed its services for over 170 million users in the United States, following an announcement by President-elect Donald Trump that he would issue an order to pause the app’s ban once he officially takes office.
This came just before his inauguration, ending a brief period of uncertainty for U.S. users.
On Saturday evening, TikTok, the popular app owned by a Chinese company, had suspended its services in the U.S. after a new national security law was put into effect. This law had been aimed at banning the app, citing concerns about the security of user data due to its ownership ties with China.
Trump had previously supported the ban, but in a surprise move on Sunday, he announced that the enforcement of the ban would be temporarily halted to allow for more discussions. This change of heart was welcomed by many, especially the app’s loyal users, who had been frustrated by the sudden shutdown.

After Trump’s announcement, TikTok confirmed that it was working to “restore service” for its U.S. users. Within hours, the app was back up and running, much to the relief of millions of users who could continue creating content and interacting on the platform.
Many American users of TikTok expressed their appreciation on social media, with some even thanking Trump for stepping in to help. The decision was seen as a positive development, allowing TikTok users to get back to their usual activities without disruption.
The back-and-forth over TikTok’s future in the U.S. has been a controversial topic for months. While concerns about the app’s data practices remain, the immediate reversal of the ban has brought some peace of mind to users, at least for now.
