The Minister of Finance, Hon. Dr. Mwigulu Lameck Nchemba, has expressed gratitude to the European Union for allocating over 703 million euros to implement various development projects over a period of 7 years from 2021 to 2027.
Dr. Nchemba made this statement in Dar es Salaam during a meeting with the new Ambassador of the European Union to Tanzania, H.E. Christine Grau, who paid a courtesy call to introduce herself formally.
Dr. Nchemba stated that the funds have been divided into two phases, with the first phase covering 4 years allocated over 426 million euros. So far, the Union has disbursed over 373 million euros directed towards several projects including blue economy, modern city construction, capital access, financial governance, private sector capital access, gender equality, and digital development projects.
He requested the EU to consider using more than 200 million euros in the second phase of the program starting next year to complete the construction of the 35-kilometer road infrastructure from Mikumi to Kidatu to stimulate the economy and benefit the residents who will utilize the road.

On her part, the new EU Ambassador, H.E. Christine Grau, praised the significant economic and social reforms underway in the country under the leadership of H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, which have made Tanzania resilient and attracted investments and capital from various parts of the world.
Furthermore, Ambassador Grau informed that preliminary negotiations for another 7-year partnership expected to start from 2028 to 2034 will officially commence next year in 2025.

Ambassador Grau congratulated Tanzania for ratifying and signing a new cooperation agreement known as SAMOA, which among other things will enable the European Investment Bank to continue its operations in the country.
