The Alliance Fleuve Congo (AFC/M23) rebel group has agreed to work toward a truce with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) government, according to a joint statement released after recent talks held in Doha, Qatar.
The discussions, brokered by Qatari mediators, aimed to de-escalate months of violence between Congolese forces and M23 fighters in the country’s eastern regions. Both sides expressed commitment to continue dialogue in pursuit of a sustainable peace agreement.

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the progress made during the talks, calling it an “important step” toward restoring stability in the conflict-affected areas.
The statement emphasized the need for further negotiations to address outstanding political and security concerns, while also highlighting the importance of protecting civilians and ensuring humanitarian access.
Fighting between the DRC army and M23 rebels has displaced hundreds of thousands of people over the past year, drawing international concern over the worsening humanitarian crisis.
