Zanzibar Government Prioritizes Health Infrastructure Investment Initiatives

Zanzibar‘s President and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, stated that the government has made significant investments in health infrastructure, recognizing the importance of the sector to society.

President Mwinyi made these remarks on October 15, 2024, at the State House in Zanzibar, during a meeting with Dr. Sara Asiimwe, Senior Manager of the Global Fund, and her delegation, led by the Minister of Health, Nassor Ahmed Mazrui.

Additionally, President Mwinyi expressed his gratitude to the Global Fund for its efforts to support the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar in various development sectors, particularly in healthcare.

He highlighted the Global Fund’s contributions to Zanzibar’s healthcare sector and other developmental efforts, emphasizing that they complement the government’s ongoing initiatives to provide quality health services.

Regarding health insurance for foreign visitors to Zanzibar, President Mwinyi explained to the Global Fund the government’s intention to introduce the insurance, recognizing its importance for visitors. He requested the Fund’s support in implementing this initiative.

Dr. Sara Asiimwe, in turn, assured President Mwinyi that the Global Fund works closely with the Zanzibar government through its development sectors, including the Ministry of Health. She promised continued collaboration with Zanzibar, particularly in developmental projects.
