Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has directed leaders in both the public and private sectors to devise strategies for enhancing women’s involvement in the digital economy.
During the opening of the Future Read Summit at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC) in Dar Es Salaam on Thursday on behalf of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Mr. Majaliwa stressed that integrating women into the production chain digitally will boost their contributions to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
He emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts from leaders in the public and private sectors, citizens, and other development stakeholders to collectively invest in Information Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure, with a focus on enhancing women’s digital and financial inclusivity.
The Premier urged telecommunication operators to establish affordable communication rates to attract more citizens, especially women, to utilize their services. He also encouraged communication stakeholders to utilize platforms like the Future Ready Summit to explore ways to empower youth to actively contribute to the country’s economy. Majaliwa urged all participants at the summit to act as advocates in sharing digital opportunities and ICT skills with others in the nation.
Additionally, he announced a government initiative to build 26 girls’ secondary schools in various regions of Tanzania Mainland to provide more girls with access to education, particularly in science subjects.
These schools are being constructed at a total cost of 104 billion shillings, with each school allocated at least 4 billion shillings. The PM,praised President Samia for spearheading these significant projects aimed at promoting women’s literacy.
Earlier, the Minister for Information, Communication, and Information Technology, Mr. Nape Nnauye, urged citizens to embrace the digital revolution without fear and confront it with courage for prosperity.
He assured that the Ministry for Information, Communication, and Information Technology will continue to oversee the implementation of key ICT infrastructure projects at institutions such as colleges and universities to facilitate seamless student learning.”Tanzania is prepared to thrive in the digital revolution,” Mr. Nnauye affirmed .
