The Tanzanian Police Force has successfully exhumed three bodies from the home of a traditional healer named Namba Kasubi in Singida Region. Two of the bodies have been identified, while the third remains unidentified. Seven people, including the traditional healer, are currently in police custody.
In a statement released today, August 26, 2024, Police Spokesperson David Misime said, “On August 24, 2024, the police reported three incidents involving three people who were reported missing under mysterious circumstances and were later found murdered. These incidents occurred in the regions of Singida, Dar es Salaam, and Tanga. After the arrest of suspects Selemani Shabani Nyandalu, also known as Hango, Saidi Haji Msanghaa, also known as Mangu, and Namba Kasubi, a traditional healer, they led the police and local residents to the location where they had buried Samwaja Sifael Said after killing him, mutilating his private parts, and then burying his body in a pit.”

“With the great assistance and cooperation of the local residents, on August 24, 2024, two more pits were discovered, and upon excavation, the body of Gidion Samwel Mnyawi (53), a resident of Makuro, was found. He was last seen being carried on a motorcycle by two individuals on October 15, 2023, and his disappearance was reported to the police. Another body, which remains unidentified, was also found and requires further investigation by forensic experts and DNA analysis. The remains found include a pelvis, and the right and left thigh bones.”
“The remains of these two people were discovered after being pointed out by Asha Bakari (51), a resident of Migugu, who is the wife of Awadh Ramadhani, also known as Wawa (54), who are the in-laws of Namba Kasubi, the traditional healer. They were arrested as well. The motive for Gidion’s murder was related to his act of selling a piece of land twice. Hawa Mohamed Sumwa and Idd Hussein Idd reported this issue to the traditional healer, who then informed them that to recover the money, Gidion Samwel needed to be sacrificed. This led to the planning and execution of the murder.”
