CHADEMA Chairman Freeman Mbowe and BAVICHA Chairman John Pambalu Arrested Shortly After Arriving at Songwe Airport on August 12, 2024
Mbowe arrived in Songwe with the intention of proceeding to Mbeya City to follow up on the fate of leaders who were arrested on August 11, 2024, at the CHADEMA Nyasa Zone offices.

These leaders include CHADEMA’s Vice Chairman for Mainland, Tundu Lissu, Secretary General John Mnyika, and Zone Chairman Joseph Mbilinyi (SUGU).
Lissu, Mnyika, and Sugu arrived in Mbeya yesterday to join the party’s youth through the CHADEMA Youth Council (BAVICHA), who had organized events for International Youth Day today in Mbeya City. However, they were subsequently arrested.
John Mrema, the Director of Protocol, Communication, and Foreign Affairs for CHADEMA, has confirmed the arrest of Mbowe and Pambalu, stating, “Mbowe and John Pambalu were arrested by the police upon their arrival at Songwe airport today. The arrest was led by the Mbeya Regional Police Commander. We will continue to provide updates as we receive them.”
