Kieran Trippier, the right-back for Newcastle United, has officially announced his retirement from international football, marking the end of a significant chapter in his career with England.
Trippier, who is 33 years old, made this decision after contributing to England’s run to the Euro 2024 final, where they were narrowly defeated by Spain. Throughout his international career, which began in 2017 under Gareth Southgate’s management, Trippier earned 54 caps and scored one memorable goal during the 2018 World Cup semi-final against Croatia.
Trippier expressed his deep gratitude towards his teammates, coaches, and fans in an emotional statement shared on social media. He highlighted the honor of representing his country in four major tournaments, including reaching two European Championship finals (2020 and 2024) and a World Cup semi-final.

Trippier also extended his best wishes to Lee Carsley, the new interim coach for England, as well as to the current squad, expressing his belief that the team is on the brink of achieving major success.
The decision comes just before Lee Carsley’s first squad announcement as interim coach, marking a transitional phase for the England team. Trippier’s former teammates, including Jordan Henderson and Harry Maguire, were quick to praise him for his contributions to the national team, highlighting the strong bonds formed during their time together.
Having played for top clubs like Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid, where he won La Liga in 2021, Trippier joined Newcastle United in 2022, continuing to demonstrate his quality at the club level. His retirement from international duty allows him to focus on his club career as Newcastle aims to solidify its position in both domestic and European competitions.
