Diplomatic efforts are underway to arrange a high-stakes meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump, according to senior Russian officials.

If realized, the summit would mark a significant development in international relations, particularly concerning the ongoing war in Ukraine and broader global tensions.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov confirmed that both sides are currently working behind the scenes to organize the meeting. Though the details remain under wraps, the proposed agenda is expected to be wide-ranging—covering the conflict in Ukraine, global security issues, and the thawing of frosty U.S.-Russia relations.

The initiative reportedly gained traction after recent informal talks in Riyadh, where American and Russian representatives laid the groundwork for a potential peace framework. While neither side has confirmed a date or venue for the summit, President Trump is said to be open to meeting his Russian counterpart soon after his scheduled visit to the Middle East next month.

The White House has not publicly commented on the specifics of the potential encounter.

International response has been mixed. Some observers see the proposed summit as an opportunity for the two nuclear powers to reduce tensions and potentially make progress toward ending the Ukraine conflict. Others, however, remain skeptical, especially in light of Ukraine’s exclusion from the preliminary discussions and Trump’s historically warm rhetoric toward Putin.

Still, the possibility of a face-to-face meeting between the two leaders has sparked cautious optimism in some diplomatic circles. “A summit alone won’t solve everything, but dialogue is better than silence,” said one European official, speaking on condition of anonymity.

As both countries prepare for what could be a major diplomatic moment, the world watches closely. If the summit proceeds, it may not only impact the trajectory of the Ukraine war, but also reshape broader geopolitical alliances for years to come.
