Several days after Media Wire Express reported on the disappearance of a young man, Shadrack Chaula (24), who was accused of burning a picture of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, the Mbeya Regional Police Commander, Benjamini Kuzaga, has finally broken his silence on the matter.
In a statement issued to the media on August 8, 2024, Commander Kuzaga confirmed the incident of the missing youth, Shadrack, and appealed to the public for their cooperation in the investigation.
According to the statement, Shadrack’s father, Yusufu Chaula (56), had reported his son’s disappearance on August 2nd of this year, while the young man was engaged in activities in the Ntokela Village, Ndato Ward, Rungwe District.
“The police received the report and are currently investigating to determine the individuals who may have taken him, and we are appealing to the public to cooperate in order to help us find him,” the statement read.

Shadrack had previously been convicted and fined 5 million Tanzanian shillings or sentenced to two years in prison after admitting to the offense of burning the President’s photograph. However, he had managed to avoid the sentence after the public raised the fine, and he was successfully released from Ruanda Prison in Mbeya Region.
The police have assured the public that they are actively investigating the case and have urged anyone with information related to Shadrack’s whereabouts to come forward and assist the authorities. The Mbeya Regional Police Command has expressed its commitment to resolving the matter and ensuring the safe return of the missing youth.
