As reports circulate about Dani Olmo’s potential move to Barcelona, it appears that the upcoming week may prove more critical for Nico Williams. The Basque winger has been Barcelona’s top target, yet indications suggest he will remain with Athletic Club

According to Relevo, Barcelona has not received an official response from Williams regarding their proposal, nor has he informed Athletic Club of his intentions. However, Williams is scheduled to return to training with Athletic on Monday, August 12th. Athletic Club believes that if he returns, it is unlikely he will transfer elsewhere.

Barcelona acknowledges this date as an implicit deadline. If they are to secure Williams, it must happen by then. Cadena Cope reports that Williams has already made his decision. Sources indicate that Williams’ agent has informed Paris Saint-Germain, another interested party, of his intent to stay with Athletic next season.

The 22-year-old winger’s stock rose significantly after his performance at Euro 2024, prompting a strong interest from Barcelona. However, financial uncertainties linger regarding Barcelona’s ability to finalize a deal for Williams. The Catalan club has not announced any agreements that would bring them within their salary cap and allow for more financial flexibility. So far, only Marc Guiu and Chadi Riad have been sold.

As the situation develops, all eyes remain on whether Williams will don the Blaugrana jersey or continue his journey with Athletic Club.
