Various stakeholders across the country have continued to share their opinions and suggestions regarding the Government’s 2024/25 budget, which was presented by the Minister of Finance, Dr. Mwigulu Lameck Nchemba.
This budget aims to strengthen crucial sectors such as education, health, infrastructure, and agriculture, with a particular focus on increasing investment in areas critical to the nation’s development.
This year’s budget includes a significant increase in funds for salaries, especially for local government employees, with an increase of approximately TZS 919 billion. The education and health sectors have also received substantial allocations to improve social services and create more employment opportunities for professionals in these fields.
This increase is expected to enhance the working environment and provide more incentives for public servants, thereby improving efficiency in service delivery to citizens
Stakeholders from various sectors have expressed satisfaction with some aspects of the budget but have also highlighted areas that need further improvement. For instance, education stakeholders have welcomed the increased budget for their sector, emphasizing the need for these funds to be effectively used to improve teaching and learning environments, increase the number of teachers, and enhance their welfare.

On the other hand, health sector stakeholders have expressed hope that the increased budget for health will help reduce shortages of medical supplies and equipment, and improve the efficiency of health service delivery, especially in rural areas. This will ensure that citizens receive quality health services without any obstacles
However, challenges such as the misappropriation of public funds have continued to emerge. Reports from the Controller and Auditor General (CAG) have shown that some local authorities have been embroiled in embezzlement scandals. Stakeholders have suggested that the government continue to provide disciplinary training and establish robust systems for controlling the use of funds
Additionally, stakeholders have proposed that the government allocate sufficient funds for loans amounting to 10% for youth, people with disabilities, women, and the elderly. This aims to economically empower these groups and improve their livelihoods, thereby contributing to the overall growth of the national economy.
The 2024/25 budget reflects the Tanzanian government’s commitment to improving social services and boosting the national economy. However, effective implementation and accountability are crucial to achieving the budget’s goals. Stakeholders have continued to offer advice and suggestions to ensure that this budget meets its objectives and brings about real development for citizens.
The government is expected to continue educating the public about the importance of accountability and the proper use of public funds to address the challenges facing this budget and ensure economic success for the entire nation. Together, these efforts can bring positive change and improve the lives of all Tanzanians.
