The Tanzania Assemblies of God (TAG) denomination celebrated a significant milestone of 85 years at a grand ceremony held at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam. Archbishop Dr. Barnabas Mtokambali, who also serves as the chairman of the Council of Pentecostal Churches of Tanzania (CPCT) and heads TAG, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the government for its steadfast commitment to maintaining peace, unity, stability, and freedom of worship across the country. Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa graced the occasion, underscoring the importance of religious harmony in Tanzania’s social fabric.
Addressing a vast congregation of worshippers and numerous dignitaries, Archbishop Mtokambali highlighted the pivotal role played by the government in enabling TAG and other churches to thrive. “The conducive environment provided by the government has allowed religious institutions like TAG to not only survive but to flourish and contribute meaningfully to our society,” he remarked.
TAG’s contributions extend far beyond spiritual guidance. Archbishop Mtokambali elaborated on the denomination’s extensive network of social services, which includes the establishment of primary and secondary schools, teacher training colleges, orphanages, childcare centers, and technical colleges across Tanzania. These institutions serve not only TAG members but also the wider community, providing education, care, and vocational training to thousands of Tanzanians annually.
