Government Swiftly Aids Flood-Hit Farmers

Following widespread devastation caused by recent floods in several regions, initial assessments indicate that approximately 75,594 acres of crops have been destroyed, posing a significant threat to local agriculture and livelihoods.

In response to the crisis, the government, in collaboration with stakeholders, has launched a rapid intervention to support affected communities in their recovery efforts.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture, David Silinde, announced a comprehensive relief package aimed at mitigating the impact of crop losses and facilitating the resumption of farming activities. The assistance includes the distribution of essential agricultural inputs, such as 70 metric tons of fertilizer and 5.6 metric tons of high-quality seeds for maize, beans, wheat, and sunflower. Plans are also underway to deliver 748.4 metric tons of maize seeds and 449 metric tons of rice seeds to the District Councils of Kibiti and Rufiji for the upcoming 2024/2025 farming season.

Silinde stressed the urgency of these measures, emphasizing their crucial role in restoring agricultural productivity and ensuring food security in affected areas. The government’s swift response aims to alleviate the immediate hardships faced by farmers and enable them to rebuild their livelihoods.
