Tanzanian Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Minister Mahmoud Thabit Kombo urged staff at the Tanzanian Embassy in Havana to prioritize economic diplomacy,
underscoring the importance of maximizing trade, investment, and tourism opportunities that bolster Tanzania’s global standing. His address encouraged embassy staff to work with commitment, creativity, and focus to represent Tanzania’s interests effectively.
During his visit, Kombo applauded the embassy team for efficiently handling the Tanzanian delegation arrivals and ensuring smooth preparations for President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s upcoming official visit. Highlighting the significance of President Samia’s trip, Kombo pointed to the inaugural International Kiswahili Conference set to take place in Havana on November 8. The conference, expected to draw around 400 participants, will celebrate Kiswahili’s growing influence, with President Samia leading the opening remarks. Kombo emphasized that the conference aligns with Tanzania’s goal of promoting Kiswahili and strengthening cultural connections across Latin America.

The minister also addressed logistical and operational challenges faced by embassy staff, pledging to pursue prompt solutions to enhance the embassy’s capacity to fulfill its responsibilities.
