The Tanzanian government has refuted claims circulating online about its aviation and railway sectors, labeling the reports as false and misleading.
Gerson Msigwa, Chief Government Spokesperson and Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Information, addressed the controversies during a press briefing on Saturday.
Responding to allegations that a national carrier’s planes were barred from flying to Europe, Msigwa confirmed the reports to be entirely baseless. He emphasized that the airline’s operations remain unaffected and called for public discernment in evaluating misinformation. “These claims are fabricated and should be disregarded,” Msigwa stated, assuring that Tanzania’s aviation sector remains operational and compliant with international standards.
Further clarifying, Msigwa tackled accusations regarding the procurement of diesel-powered trains, purportedly undermining global environmental efforts. He reiterated that the government’s recent rail acquisitions align with its strategy for enhancing transport infrastructure. These diesel-electric hybrid trains are part of broader initiatives to modernize the country’s railways while laying the groundwork for eventual electrification.

The Spokesperson also highlighted ongoing improvements at Dar es Salaam Port, which recently sparked debate over privatization rumors. He confirmed that a partnership agreement with the Emirate of Dubai was centered on operational efficiency and technological upgrades. He dismissed the privatization narrative, stressing that Tanzania’s sovereignty over its key assets remains intact.
These reassurances come amid heightened scrutiny over the government’s major projects, including aviation, transport, and infrastructure. The Tanzanian government continues to urge citizens to rely on official statements and verified sources for accurate information.
