Vice President Dr. Philip Mpango has issued a stern directive to sector ministers, urging them to reduce their time spent in office and instead dedicate more efforts to visiting rural areas to address the challenges faced by local communities.
This call to action was made at the conclusion of his four-day working tour of various development projects across the region.
During his tour, Dr. Mpango emphasized the necessity of completing development projects on time and to the required standards. He warned that any delays would result in further action against responsible parties. The Vice President’s message was clear: the success of Tanzania’s development agenda hinges on the ability of government officials to connect directly with the grassroots and address their pressing needs.
“Our leaders must move beyond the comfort of their offices and immerse themselves in the realities of rural life,” Dr. Mpango stated. “Only through direct engagement with the people can we identify and resolve the issues that hinder our progress.”
In Mpwapwa District, where Dr. Mpango inspected several ongoing projects, he noted that the challenges faced by rural communities often stem from inadequate supervision and delays in project execution. He directed ministers responsible for various sectors to establish regular routines for visiting rural areas. This hands-on approach, he said, would enable them to engage directly with local leaders and residents to tackle development challenges more effectively.
“Ministers must ensure that projects are not only completed on time but also meet the highest standards of quality,” Dr. Mpango emphasized. “The people cannot afford to wait indefinitely for the benefits of development.”
The Vice President also called upon regional and district officials to allocate adequate time and resources to address the challenges impeding the implementation of various development projects. He stressed that clear communication and coordination between different levels of government are essential to preventing unnecessary delays.

Dr. Mpango’s visit to Mpwapwa District underscored the government’s commitment to addressing the needs of rural communities, which are often overlooked in favor of urban development. He made it clear that the government would not hesitate to take action against officials who fail to deliver essential services and infrastructure to these areas.
“The government is fully committed to ensuring that development reaches every corner of the country,” Dr. Mpango declared. “This requires a renewed focus on efficiency, accountability, and direct engagement with the people.”
The Vice President’s directive is expected to bring about a significant shift in the management of government projects, with a stronger emphasis on fieldwork and on-the-ground problem-solving. By urging ministers to increase their presence in rural areas, Dr. Mpango aims to ensure that the voices of rural residents are heard and their challenges addressed promptly.
In the coming months, it is anticipated that sector ministers will ramp up their visits to rural communities, conducting more frequent consultations with local leaders and residents. This proactive approach is expected to lead to faster identification and resolution of issues, ultimately contributing to the improved quality of life for residents in these communities.
Dr. Mpango concluded his tour with a rallying call for all government officials to commit themselves fully to the task of nation-building. “Our country’s future depends on the work we do today,” he stated. “Let us ensure that every project, every initiative, brings us one step closer to achieving our development goals.
