German Deputy Foreign Minister Katja Keul Visits Tanzania

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, Hon. Katja Keul, arrived in the country on February 29, 2024. Hon. Keul is in the country for a four-day official visit.

At the Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA), Hon. Keul was welcomed by the Acting Regional Commissioner of Kilimanjaro, Hon. Kisare Makore, the Tanzanian Ambassador to Germany, Hon. Hassan Mwamweta, and other regional leaders of Kilimanjaro.

While in the country, Hon. Keul will visit the KCMC Hospital, pay respects at Mangi Meli’s grave, and visit the Kidia Parish where she will attend a ceremony commemorating the life and work of the German writer and pastor Bruno Gutmann who lived in the area for 28 years. She will also launch a book on the cultural life of the Chagga people written in Swahili.

Hon. Keul is also expected to meet and hold discussions with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Hon. January Makamba, the Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism, Hon. Angellah Kairuki, and the Minister of Culture, Arts, and Sports, Hon. Dr. Damas Ndumbaro.

Hon. Keul’s visit, which includes observing various development activities funded by the German government in the regions of Kilimanjaro and Arusha, aims to further strengthen relations and cooperation between Tanzania and Germany.
